hot water is better for extinguishing fire. The reason is that hot water readily boils and it takes away the heat for evaporation . Coldc water on the other hand needs to be raised to 100 degree celsius before it can boil.But the heat absorbed when the hot water boils is very much greater than the amount of heat cold water takes to raise temperature to 100 degree celsius. Therefore hot water extinguishes fire more readily

Why this AskPhysics Blog?
